Meet our Surf Witch Chloe! Chloe is 33 years old & originally from Canada. We LOVE watching Chloe surf, she has a killer style and always manages to catch the longest waves…
How did you get into surfing and what do you love about it?
I’ve been OBSESSED with surfing since I was 16 living in Canada, I have no idea what started the fascination but my walls as a kid were covered in pages from surfing magazines. When I finally made it to Australia, I simply HAD to try it. What do I love most about it- uh EVERYTHING…but that feeling once you pop up and are riding along A MOVING WAVE IN THE OCEAN!!! There’s not better feeling in the world!
What do you do for work and any cool hobbies outside of surfing?
I’m a Personal Trainer and Pilates instructor so when I’m not surfing I’m training or outside hiking or at the beach
Fav place to surf?
Rainbow Bay/ Greenmount
Surfboard of choice?
Depends of the conditions but my fave is probably my 9’4″ Mctavish single fin, it was custom made for my 30th bday.
What has been your fav surfing experience so far?
Man, hard to narrow it down, I’ve had so many. Stand out sessions at the Pass in Byron, 3ft and reeling all the way from the point to Clarkes beach. The rides were so long that my legs were burning by the end and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. Another time surfing with Dolphins at Wategos, they were under my board and surfing along with me.
What do you love about the surf witches?
It’s SO nice to connect with fellow surfers, it has definitely made me surf more and everyone is so friendly. I haven’t lived on the GC for long so it’s also nice to make some new friends. And getting photos taken while surfing is SUCH a treat so I’m very grateful for that as well.
What advice would you share with other women starting out?
Surf as much as you can. It comes down to time in the water to help you improve. Try not to get discourage and just keep going. One day it will click. Watch other surfers to see how they surf. Also challenge yourself and get out of the whitewash and try for some small green waves- that’s where the magic happens!
