Witch Wednesday – Meet Maddy

Meet the gorgeous Maddy! She is 20 years old from the Gold Coast & she is an insanely talented artist (check out @fluxbymaddy). This all-round water woman is beautiful inside and out & we love having her quiet, calming presence at our meet ups.

What got you into surfing and what do you love most about it?

I have grown up by the ocean and my dad got me into surfing when I was young.

I love how free I feel when in the ocean, observing mother nature above and below us. How lucky we are to experience this form of nature. I feel so connected to her as I glide each wave and receive an immense amount of love to protect our oceans for future generations.

Fave place to surf?

Rainbow Bay, Wategoes, Tea Tree Bay and Makaha (HI).

What do you do for work? Any cool hobbies or interests outside of surfing you want to share with us?

I am studying marine science, and hoping find or create work to combine my creative passions with science and issues surrounding environmental awareness. I work in landscaping currently, and my hobbies are painting, photography and yoga!

Board of choice?

9ā€™2ā€ or longer

What has been your fav surfing experience so far?

Surfing at Makaha, a locals beach on the west side of Oahu where it was the biggest I have ever surfed, 5-6ft with lots of intimidating surfers out there. The waves were glass and rolled perfectly on the reef break and into shore. Each wave you glided over the utmost clearest water over turtles and fish.

I caught a set wave and it was huge, slightly out of my comfort zone, but I was smiling so hard and rode it all the way to the beach. The Hawaiian locals were all cheering when I paddled back out and, to this day, that was my favourite wave.

Hawaii is a magical place with the most beautiful culture and people, a place you must go and experience the ocean there!

What do you love about the Surf Witches?

I love that every time I surf I can surf with a bunch of awesome women that encourage and empower each other.

I have connected with such beautiful souls and I am so grateful for Hannah, Miranda, and Monica for creating this community.

What advice would you share with other women starting out?

Do not be afraid of what others think of you, just smile and laugh at yourself when you fall off and have fun! When you come to a surf witches meet, you will not face any judgement but endless amount of support and friendship.
